Our Church Vision

Our Identity Statement:

We are Disciples of Christ, a movement for wholeness in a fragmented world. As part of the one body of Christ, we welcome all to the Lord's Table as God has welcomed us.

Our Mission:

To win people to faith in Jesus Christ, to help them grow in the grace and knowledge of Christ that increasingly they may know and do His will, and to work for the unity of all Christians and with them engage in the common task of building the Kingdom of God.

Our Name

The official name of our church body is "The Christian Church (Disciples of Christ)" and came about as a result of the melding of two Christian movements in the early 19 the century in America: The Christian Church led by Barton W. Stone, and the Disciples of Christ led by Alexander Campbell.

Our Beliefs

• Our beliefs begin with the Great Confession, that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of the Living God, and we accept him as our Lord and Savior.

• We believe that Baptism is most symbolically practiced by immersion, but we accept anyone’s prior baptisms whether by sprinkling, or as an infant.

• We observe communion in every worship service, and believe it is central to those worship experiences. All are invited to participate with no exceptions.

• We believe that we should in matters of faith allow for diversity of conviction and opinion.

• Every Christian should study scripture, reflect on God’s message through the Holy Spirit, and come to their own understanding for their own accounting.

• In concert with the previous stated conviction, we believe the Bible is the inspired word of God and is best understood when studied within a community of faith. We recognize and rejoice in the diversity that God has provided us, for the richness of thoughts and viewpoints it brings.

• We believe the Body of Christ is one in the Church universal, and so we seek unity with all Christians. We believe that Jesus Christ came to unite us, even in our differences.

The Symbol

The red chalice with the St. Andrews cross is the iconic symbol of The Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). It denotes how communion is central in our worship. All people, no matter their own denomination, are welcome at the Lord’s Table. St. Andrews Cross is represented on the red chalice symbol. The apostle Andrew, tradition has it, as a result of his ministry, was crucified on an X-shaped cross, because he felt unworthy to be crucified in the same manner as Jesus Christ, and requested that his death come nailed to an X-shaped cross, which now symbolizes humility and sacrifice.
